when nail art goes bad, polka dot it!

i began this manicure using essie's navigate her as a base then color blocked it using essie's splash of grenadine on the top half. to acheive the marbled look inspired by blognailedit.blogspot.com i tore up small pieces of saran wrap, bunched it into small balls then dabbed the balls of saran wrap on the nails to pick up the second color (splash of grenadine) achieving a "marbled" look. unfortunately it did not come out as i intended it to, so using a white dotting/stripping pen i dotted a line on each nail to complete the look. for the heart design on the ring finger i used a "crayola" nail art stencil which can be found at your local drug store.

color block nails

last week i attempted the current trend of color blocking on my nails. for this manicure i used essie's carousel coral as a base and essie's fiesta on top. to achieve the half moon look i applied the base, let it dry, then applied a paper reinforcer (which i got at a local staples store), followed by the second color. make sure to press the corners down to achieve a neat look. i also altered the colors on my ring finger for a twist!

what is color blocking?

color blocking is a current trend seen at fashion runway shows, accessories, makeup and in beauty. it is to combine different colors that compliment each other and contrast. why? complimentary colors are natural opposites so it works well together. check out the color wheel below and create your own color blocking whether its an outfit, makeup or even nails!
